Alaska Natural Heritage Program receives 2011 Scientific and Technological Achievement Award from the NatureServe network
The BIOTICS Data Portal and the Alaska Exotic Plants Information Clearinghouse (AKEPIC) web-based mapping tools provide free access to the best available scientific data on the conservation status and distribution of Alaska’s rare plants and animals as well as invasive species found in the state.
New report highlights diversity and value of Alaska's coastal forests
A new report published by the USDA Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest Research Station presents summaries of current southeast and south-central Alaska forest topics, ranging from carbon and forest products to lichens and invasive species.
The report, Forests of Southeast and South-Central Alaska, 2004-2008, highlights key findings from the most recent data collected by the station’s PNW Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) unit. The report is available online at

Faces of Climate Change
The Alaska Marine Conservation Council, COSEE Alaska, in partnership with Alaska Sea Grant program, has produced three short videos showcasing the dramatic changes in Alaska's marine ecosystems. These introductions to the impacts of climate change in Alaska include interviews with Alaska Natives, commentary by scientists, and footage from Alaska's Arctic.
The Yakutat Chamber of Commerce, with partners, is hosting the 1st Annual Tern Festival on June 2-5, 2011.
