Priority Habitats

Joint venture partners in Oregon have expanded the scope of their efforts in recent years beyond the PCJV's original focus on wetlands to include other habitat types that are high priorities for bird conservation. Wetlands, which provide essential habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, and other waterbirds, continue to be a top priority.

Because the federal government's Northwest Forest Plan provides a relatively high level of protection for conifer forests on federal lands in western Oregon, PCJV habitat priorities for landbirds focus on riparian, oak and grassland habitats, which are primarily found on private lands.
