Puget Sound Science Review—new online resource
The Review is a web-based, moderated document representing the collective knowledge of leading authorities from state and federal agencies, academic institutions and Puget Sound area tribes. It is managed by the Puget Sound Institute at the University of Washington.

Washington PCJV bids farewell to dedicated steering committee member Jeanne Koenings
Jeanne Koenings has led the Washington Department of Ecology’s wetland stewardship program since October 2005 and has also played an important leadership role with the Washington PCJV. Jeanne will retire later this month, and partners will have a chance to wish her well at the January 18 meeting at the Nisqually National Wildlife refuge (see meeting info on this page). During her tenure at Ecology, Jeanne has successfully guided partners through highly competitive national grant processes, resulting in acquisition and restoration of 5,529 acres of critical wetland habitat.

Charlotte Martin Foundation: Wildlife and Habitat Grants
Deadline: January 31, 2012. Funds projects that are part of an established or larger design addressing ecosystem health and resilience; protect and preserve freshwater, marine and estuarine resources; and support wildlife migration corridors and critical habitat.

NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship. Deadline for post-graduate candidates: January 27, 2012
A position with WA Dept. of Ecology in Bellevue is one of six NOAA fellowships offered this year. Fellowship will focus on Coastal Planning in Washington State: Providing Green Shorelines Guidance for State and Local Governments in Puget Sound. http://www.csc.noaa.gov/cms/fellows/pdfs/WA_2012.pdf

South Sound Prairies Working Group launches new website
The Center for Natural Lands Management officially took over the South Puget Sound Program of The Nature Conservancy in July 2011.The website is now focused more on general information - technical information will be handled by the Cascadia Prairie-Oak Partnership. That website will be up soon.


Habitat management

2011 Biennial State Land Acquisition Performance Monitoring Report
The Habitat and Recreation Lands Coordinating Group has published its first report that looks at how successful state agencies were at buying habitat and recreation land. Data from the report can be used to identify strengths and weaknesses in state acquisition processes and inform decision-making.
