USFWS announces revised list of bird species protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
The list incorporates the latest taxonomic and scientific data for migratory birds. The changes include 186 new additions and 11 subtractions, bringing the total number of species protected under the Act to 1007.

Partners in Flight Western Working Group launches new web site
American Bird Conservancy launches Conservation Birding web site
The initiative features an interactive website with birding information presented on Google Earth and is designed to help visitors plan their birding trips.
United States Nightjar Survey Network seeks volunteer surveyors
Survey windows are May 20-June 4 2010, or June 19-July 4, 2010, depending on location.
The Nightjar Survey Network is coordinated by The Center for Conservation Biology Survey routes are distributed throughout 38 U.S. states. This program relies entirely on volunteer participation.
Grants and funding
Wildlife Action Opportunities Fund 2010 RFP
Deadline: March 26, 2010
Provides grants to conservation organizations, state fish and wildlife agencies, and tribal governments for projects focused on implementing priority conservation actions identified in strategic habitat conservation plans. $50,000 to $250,000 per project.
National Wildlife Refuge Friends Group Grant Program
Deadline: April 30, 2010
This National Fish and Wildlife Foundation program provides competitive seed grants ($1,500 - $5,000) to creative and innovative proposals that seek to increase the number and effectiveness of organizations interested in assisting the Refuge System nationwide.

Landbird Monitoring Tools (AbundanceR) free online workshops

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is sponsoring a training and demonstration webinar of a new simplified data analysis tool (abundanceR), along with a new set of ArcGIS tools for data in the USGS Bird Point Count Database.
Climate change
SLAMM (Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model) Version 6 has been released
SLAMM simulates the dominant processes involved in wetland conversions and shoreline modifications during long-term sea level rise. SLAMM 6 is the first open-source version of SLAMM and also provides several refinements.
NOAA launches Climate Services Portal
The Portal is designed to become the "go-to" website for NOAA's climate data, products, and services for all users.
Invasive species
Invasive Species Specialist Group
Promotes the exchange of invasive species information and knowledge across the globe. Core activity areas are 1.) policy and technical advice; 2.) information exchange (including Global Invasive Species Database); and 3.) networking (including Aliens-L list server).
Management of Biological Invasions Journal
An open access, peer-reviewed online journal focusing on real experiences on the management of biological invasions. Go to website to download the first issue and see submission guidelines.

U.S. EPA Online Training in Watershed Management
The Watershed Academy Web site offers a variety of self-paced training modules organized by the following themes: Introductory; Watershed Ecology; Watershed Change; Analysis and Planning; Management Practices; and Community/Social/Water Law. Modules are ½ hour to 2 hours long.
